Analysis of the Causes of Golput (White Group) in the 2024 Regional Elections in DKI Jakarta

Abstract

This study investigates the causes of voter abstention (Golput) in the 2024 Regional Head Election in DKI Jakarta using descriptive qualitative methods. Golput or absence from voting, is an ongoing problem and has the potential to undermine the legitimacy of the democratic process. This research uses secondary data which includes official DKI Jakarta KPU reports, local news articles and academic journals. This research results show that the causes of abstention in the DKI Jakarta regional elections were due to lack of trust in the political process, dissatisfaction with candidates, money politics practices, and accessibility barriers. These findings require confirmation of strategic steps to increase public trust, design a more inclusive electoral system, and overcome accessibility obstacles, so as to strengthen democratic legitimacy at the local level.
