Institutional Analysis of Coffee Commodity Value Chain in Bandung Regency

This article aims to analyze the institutional structure of the coffee commodity value chain in Bandung Regency. The institutions at each stage of the coffee supply chain provide a comprehensive overview and current conditions of the various stages within the coffee industry in Bandung Regency. This can help in analyzing the challenges and issues present at each stage of the coffee supply chain in Bandung Regency. The study aims to produce policy recommendations for the sustainable development of the coffee industry in Bandung Regency, particularly in the development of farmer or community-based institutions, in creating jobs and increasing the income of farmers and communities involved in the coffee supply chain. A qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussion with the actors involved in the activities within the coffee supply chain in Bandung Regency. he data analysis technique to be used is descriptive analysis, utilizing a stakeholder analysis framework. The results show that the coffee value chain in Bandung Regency is highly diverse and dynamic. The classical coffee value chain scheme, which consists of farmers, collectors, traders, and exporters, still dominates the coffee industry landscape in Bandung Regency but is gradually being replaced by forms such as farmer groups, cooperatives, and local value chains that cater to the markets in Bandung and Jakarta, which are relatively close. This is also a unique feature of the value chain in Bandung Regency, where proximity and access infrastructure allow farmers and downstream actors, as end consumers in Greater Bandung, to be directly connected.
